What About The Refugees?

I wrote this last night, but looking at it today made me question the wisdom in posting it.

But low and behold, in my email today was a post by J. Lee Grady, saying somewhat the same thing.

So, why not? I believe what I wrote is truth, so with the risk of sounding like a liberal, I’m gonna talk about something that’s very dear to the heart of God.

Red and yellow, black and white, they’re all precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.

But only if they were born in America, to American parents. Right?

The United States of America is only 239 years old. Jesus died and rose again 2,000 years ago. Why did He do it? Because He loved the world so much!

Jesus died for the nations – regardless of their political persuasions or religious convictions. Do you hear me? THE NATIONS!

How are the nations to hear of God’s great love, and the power of the Gospel, if American missionaries are not allowed into the nations?

Hundreds of thousands of refugees are being batted about from nation to nation like badminton shuttlecocks. Their lives are up in the air, without any fault of their own.

They simply want to live.

What if the refugee crisis is God’s way of speeding up the distribution process of His message? Well?

What if?

What if America, even as bad and as unchristian as it acts, is supposed to be God’s end time Ark of Safety?

Like you, I’ve read the posts. “America can’t afford any more refugees! Impeach Obama! He’s destroying our country!”

Yes, I’ve read all that stuff. But what if YOU were the Syrian who’s only looking for a place to live? What would you do?

God told Noah to build the ark so He could sustain life. And since God is on record as saying mankind is worth much more than sparrows, couldn’t He have planned this massive, worldwide movement?

There’s a proverb you and I should pay attention to.

“People curse those who hoard their grain, but they bless the one who sells in time of need.” (Proverbs 11:26 NLT)

What’s it mean? It’s never good to be stingy with what we have, whether as individuals or as a nation.

“But the extra load will bust our economy!”

God is able to make all His grace abound toward those who do His will.

“If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord – and He will repay you.” (Proverbs 19:17 NLT)

We pray, “Lord, raise up workers, missionaries, and send them to the nations. God, open the door for Your glorious gospel!”

And it’s good to pray that way.

But what if God is answering those prayers in ways which make life a little more challenging for us holy Americans?

What if illegal aliens are here (unbeknownst to them) to hear the Gospel? What if the refugees aren’t coming here to make the U.S. a Muslim nation? Oh, some may THINK it’s their plan, but God has ways of bringing HIS will to pass.

How do you know what their intent is? Besides, as Joseph told his brothers, “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.”

I’m as concerned as the next patriotic person about how can this nation take on any more people. But I have an even greater concern.

How can these people hear the Gospel that will not only change their earthly lives, but also their FOREVERS?

So what about the refugees?

What about you and I? We’re the ones who claim to have faith in the living God. Isn’t He able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or even think?

Isn’t the God we love and serve NOT WILLING that ANY MAN PERISH?

What about the refugees?

Open your hearts and let them in.

It could be the best thing for this nation.
Who knows?
God does.

As for the illegals? Well, it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a wall built anytime soon, so I think the best one can do is trust God.

And make sure we love the ones He loves.

Only One Requirement

I’d like to say a word or two about the President of the United States of America. No, not any particular president, but rather the Office of President.

I won’t use a lot of words; it won’t take many.

I’ll start by saying that most people have their preference of who should be living in the White House. And yes, I have my preferences also.

But I feel there’s only one requirement a person MUST meet if they’re to lead this great land; if they are going to be the leader of the free world.

Before I tell you that one requirement, allow me to say what IS NOT a requirement.

–they do not have to believe in God, Jesus, the Bible, or the Holy Spirit. They can be an atheist for that matter. The person isn’t voted on as if they’re a candidate for the church pastorate.

–they don’t have to be pro-life.

–they needn’t be a musician, painter, or skilled at solving the Rubik’s Cube.

–they can be black, white, yellow, red, or purple. They can wear tan shoes, with pink shoelaces. It doesn’t matter. But a certain color isn’t required.

–whether or not the person is a veteran of the armed forces matters not to me.

–they can be a vegan, raise happy chickens that lay happy eggs. Whatever.

Only one REQUIREMENT, as far as I’m concerned.

–No, they don’t have to be Republican, Democrat, Green Party, Tea Party, or No Party.

–They don’t need to believe what I believe, love what I love, or hate what I hate. They may do things I don’t like, but are, in reality, best for this country.

Just one requirement: they must be able to faithfully do what they swore (or affirmed) they’d do – faithfully execute the office of President, and preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Plain as the Oath they repeat.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

But if they can’t do that one thing, then regardless of their color, faith, political party, or what they ate for breakfast, they need to QUIT or be fired.

And those of us who come under the heading of “We the People” have a responsibility to demand the president keeps that one charge.

Agree? Why or why not?

Drunk with Power

A long time ago there was a king. A king who was drunk with power.

But one night he had a strange visitation from God.

It changed everything.

“Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace, opposite the lamp-stand. And the king saw the hand as it wrote.” (Daniel 5:5 ESV)

Opposite the lamp-stand.

The lamp-stand is the source of light for the room. It also can represent the source of revelation, or knowledge of the Holy One, for a group of people or society as a whole.

In the Book of Revelation, the Church is the lamp-stand.

I find this passage very intriguing. I believe it speaks prophetically to our day and age; to the nation we all know as the United States of America. At the very least, it should speak to our nation’s leaders – political, civic, and spiritual.

King Belshazzar was so full of himself he couldn’t see anything or anyone else. In his eyes he was all knowing and all powerful. One night he “made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine in front of the thousand.

“Belshazzar, when he tasted the wine, commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem be brought, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. Then they brought in the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.” (Daniel 5:1-4 ESV)

I’m not going to try and get you to believe King Belshazzar was responsible for all of Babylon’s wickedness. It simply isn’t so. However, as the ruler of the Babylonian Empire, Belshazzar was the one God would hold accountable.

That’s how it is with leaders.

That’s how it is with President Obama. But more about him later.

Belshazzar was drunk. Drunk with power and with the fruit of the vine. In front of his thousand lords he began to mock the God of Jerusalem; the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. As he led his sycophants in praise to the gods of the land, the God of Abraham sent him a message.

In fact, it would be the king’s last.

Notice where the message was written. On the wall, opposite the lamp-stand.

I remind you of the lamp-stand’s purpose.

Throughout the centuries, God has had various “lamp-stands” through which he would speak.

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.” (Hebrews 1:1-3 ESV)

Jesus, a Lamp-stand to reveal the will and nature of the Father. The Church, the Body of Christ, is also referred to as “the light of the world”.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 ESV)

As the hand suddenly appeared before Belshazzar, the particular wall on which the message was written had great significance.

The wall opposite the light.

Belshazzar stood for everything that opposed the one true God. He was the leader of a kingdom that had openly opposed Israel, and the God of Israel. Yes, God had used Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar’s grandfather, to bring correction to His people. But Belshazzar went beyond the intent of the Lord, and helped lead his nation in ways completely contrary to the revealed will of God.

And the writing appeared, with its meaning interpreted by the prophet Daniel.

“Then Daniel answered and said before the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation. O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty. And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled. But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him. He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will. And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored.

“Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. And this is the writing that was inscribed: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. This is the interpretation of the matter: Mene, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.””(Daniel 5:17-23 ESV)

The king’s opposition to light, God’s revelation about Himself AND about mankind, ultimately judged the king and brought down his kingdom.

That night.

In this great nation called the United States of America, there are a lot of men and women who openly and vehemently oppose God’s light. It’s not a new thing; no, not at all.

But the blatant defiance and utter disregard toward anything remotely “Christian” is no longer tolerable by God. It has far surpassed the evils of Sodom and Gomorrah. How can I say that, since I didn’t live back then?

Mankind is judged by what they do with the revelation they have. Sodom and Gomorrah had some revelation, enough to bring God’s judgment.

But America, that “city on a hill” (as described by Puritan John Winthrop in 1630) has done everything within its power to snuff out the light of God.

And no other nation, ever, has had so much “revelation”, so much light. Churches on every corner, books and bibles available to anyone and everyone. Leaders are sworn in to office with the Word of God.

It appears the leadership of this once great land is drunk with power. They have called for the treasures of the Christian Church to be paraded in front of all while they mock and demean the ones they oppose.

President Barack Obama, and his administration of thousands, will soon see the handwriting on the wall. Their opposition to the lamp-stand has been noted by God. They are responsible; they will be held accountable.

As prayer can avert judgment, it is not an automatic fix. Daniel was a praying man in the Babylonian kingdom. But Daniel could not change the heart of the leaders.

The arrogance of the nation’s leaders has called for judgment. The public mockery of all things holy has demanded judgment.

God will remember mercy in judgment; but mercy will not alleviate true justice.

As the hand wrote those infamous words on the wall opposing the light, so shall the Lord reveal His final message to America’s leaders.

May America have time to hear and repent.

Belshazzar didn’t.

What Does God Hate?

20131203-221607.jpgGod is love, but He still hates!

What does God hate? Does He hate tattoos, or Christmas trees, or little fat Santas?

Is He a hater of republicans, democrats, or both? Does He hate the United States of America, as some “prophets” have proclaimed?

Just who, or what, does God hate?

Maybe God hates Starbucks employees, because, oh, I forgot why.

I’ve heard He hates Proctor and Gamble products, but, again, I don’t remember why.

Are We Really “One Nation” Anymore?

Just some simple observations and a very important question.

The observations: there are so many conversations, Internet postings, radio talk shows (including short wave), regarding this present Administration regarding gun laws, healthcare, disregard for the Constitution, cover-ups such as Benghazi and Fast and Furious, the economy, and dictator-type leadership from the President.

So much unrest and discord. Remind’s me of the 60’s, except television and music were a lot better (in my opinion). So much polarization…

The question? With obvious tension growing minute by minute, is the United States of America headed for another Civil War?

I hope not.

Our spiritual enemy enjoys sowing discord and division among brothers, churches, companies, nations. In fact, he is a covenant breaker by nature. He operates behind the scenes, manipulating and maneuvering people into deep seated hatred and violence.

We must understand we will either allow this present condition to unite us or divide us. May God help us realize who the real enemy is and act accordingly.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV)

Forgive me, I have sinned

Forgive me, for I have sinned.

I’ve been as guilty as the next person. As a matter of fact, I have just plain out and out sinned! “Oh no, brother, what have you done? Have you become trapped in pornography, or started smoking? Maybe you’ve started drinking again…”

No, something more serious than that, I’m afraid.

You see, I am someone who has talked about others, made them the butt end of jokes, and have helped sow discord when I, as a follower of Jesus, should have been sowing unity. I have secretly, and not so secretly, wanted certain people to fail because I don’t agree with their philosophy. I have spoken disparaging words against them and have failed to follow the words of Jesus completely by not praying for them.

You may say, “how could you act so bad?” “I thought you were a Christian!” “And you had the nerve to write a book about the power of encouragement!”

I’m sorry that I have let each one of you down. I let The Lord down, as well.

Most importantly I let President Obama down, along with his staff. Just because I don’t like his policies is no excuse for not praying and believing God for him. When I was a pastor I’m sure the congregation didn’t agree with all my opinions and decisions yet I expected them to pray for me anyway. No difference.

Joseph had a tough life, the children of Israel had it rough as well. Sometimes there were good rulers and sometimes the rulers were rotten. Daniel is an interesting study, as he said to the heathen king, “O king, live forever!” The early church had horrible persecution yet Paul told them to pray for their leaders.

I repent of my Obama jokes, posts, etc. My choice, now, is to be part of God’s solution rather than part of the problem. God HATES those who sow discord, and speaking ill of leadership is sowing discord.

The election is over! That doesn’t mean we just give in to every policy that our leaders come up with, but it does mean we do what God said in His Word. Pray. Believe God can change a heart, change a nation. Speak life, unity, peace, righteousness over our leaders and nation. We cannot speak ill and ugly of someone we carry regularly to God in prayer.

Righteousness exalts a nation. Prayer prepares the way for righteousness. May we be one nation under God.
