Your Innocent Little Secret

This post is written mainly for men, but it can also be for women; women who share in the same innocent little secret.

You’re convinced you aren’t doing anything wrong. You’re not being unfaithful to your wife; you’re only letting off steam. After all, your sex drive is far greater than your spouse’s so you’re alright.

It’s just your innocent little secret.

But is it alright? If there wasn’t anything wrong with it, why do you feel as though it should remain a secret?

Pornography is not alright. Neither is adultery, rape, self gratification, or any other kind of fornication.

It’s more than just your innocent little secret. It’s a thief and a robber.

“A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies ends up in poverty.” (Proverbs 28:19 NLT)

Pornography is nothing more than raunchy fantasy. Whether you are consuming it in the privacy of your home, or at an “adult” bookstore on the opposite side of town, it’s destroying you from the inside out; even if you don’t believe it is.

Chasing after such fantasy will leave you spiritually, emotionally, and physically ruined. It’s like a fire that cannot be quenched, that continuously screams, “More! More!” (Proverbs 30:16)

Pornography has never added value to any society that has tolerated it. From the days of Nimrod and the Tower of Babel, Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians, the Egyptian Pharaohs, the Roman Empire, and on to the present, the worship and idolization of sex has always affected the nation in such a negative way, it finally collapsed.

No one merely “dabbles” with porn, anymore than someone merely drinks a little poison now and then. Every time a person is exposed to it, their system becomes infected. Each time, a little more poison. Eventually the mind and body become addicted to the “high” that comes from the arousal and subsequent climax. When that happens, the person is enslaved to the demands of the flesh and mind.

A slave to their innocent little secret.

Paul wrote: “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV)

The words, sexual immorality, are translated “fornication” in the KJV of the Bible. The original Greek word is “porneia”. It’s where we get the word pornography. It refers to ANY KIND of sexual activity OUTSIDE the holy covenant of marriage (God’s definition of marriage: one man and one woman).

SEX is beautiful, but fornication is a killer.

“Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” (Hebrews 13:4 NKJV)

Fornication, porneia, isn’t necessarily having sex with someone other than your spouse. It’s allowing yourself to be sexually stimulated by anyone or anything other than your spouse. Whether you indulge in private viewings on the Internet, or by “sexting” a co-worker, it is fornication.

And you are sinning against your own body (which includes your spouse, since the two have become one).

If you aren’t married? You’re violating your relationship with God.

Don’t care about God?

You’re still driving yourself to ruin.

In case you haven’t noticed, once the sex drive is sparked, it becomes the most powerful impulse known to man. Allow that craving to grow, unchecked and out of control, it will eventually consume all your time, money, and energy. It will isolate you from all that’s good, and keep you from being a productive human being.

“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” (Proverbs 25:28 NLT)

Pornography is a very jealous paramour; a possessive and controlling mistress. She demands your total attention and allegiance. She will not allow you to be really intimate with anyone else; not with your spouse, and not with God.

Your innocent little secret owns you.

There’s only one way to break free. Truth.

Expose your secret to your spouse, or a trusted friend if you’re not married. Confess your sin to God and He’ll forgive you. Find someone whom you trust, who knows God and can pray, and start working together to break the addiction to porn.

Flee tempting situations, and run to your God, your spouse, and your friend. Victory is available, because Jesus is Lord over temptation.

But first things first. If you aren’t willing to expose your “lover”, you will never be free. However, once things are revealed, great things can begin to happen.

So, shine the light on your innocent little secret and see what God can do.

Don’t Light The Match

image

Don’t light the match, and you won’t start a fire.

You cannot “taper down” your addiction to porn, any more than you can taper down burning down your house. To win, don’t light the match.

Every image of porn you look at ignites a fuse inside of you that demands more, more, and MORE.

Each time you SET YOUR EYES on images designed to stir up the inner desire of sexual satisfaction, you build a wall in your spirit that actually keeps you from having true intimacy with your spouse; and spiritual fellowship with God.

“I’m doing better”, you say; but you don’t realize there’s a monster of lust growing inside of you. Sooner or later that monster will not only devour you, but also those who really love and care about you.

Do you really want to be free from the monster of lust?

1. Don’t feed it, STARVE IT. Get rid of it. Not just the hardcore stuff, but even the “soft” stuff that gets your motor racing. Things like television shows, movies, books, and even certain restaurants.

2. Make your eyes obey you. YOU decide what things you’ll focus on. And don’t listen to the advice of those who think “eye candy” won’t hurt you.

3. If you’re married, talk to your spouse about your problem. Ask her/him to pray for you and support your decision to live pure.

4. Find a friend who loves you enough to speak truthfully, prayerfully, and confidentially with you. And I HIGHLY advise choosing a friend who’s of the same sex as you are.

Again, if you don’t keep matches in your pocket, you can’t readily start a fire.

Let your spouse keep the matches. Let them be your ONLY desire for sexual intimacy.

I repeat – don’t light the match and you won’t get burned.

“When you run out of wood, the fire goes out…” (Proverbs 26:20 MSG)

“…There are three things that are never satisfied –
no, four that never say, “Enough!”: the grave, the barren womb, the thirsty desert, the blazing fire.” (Proverbs 30:15-16 NLT)

“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts…” (2 Timothy 2:22 NLT)

The Sex Addict

20130517-070404.jpg

The addict. The dictionary defines an addict as someone who has a strong and habitual liking for something.

Something like, for instance, sex.

Now I’m nobody’s fool; I realize most people who have experienced some degree of the sexual experience would agree it’s likable. Some might even go so far as to say sex is downright enjoyable.

But enjoying it and being addicted to it are two separate issues.

God created the sex act. He made it enjoyable. He also gave it his blessing; as it takes place between a married couple, a man and woman who are married to each other.

But God did not create perversion; nor does he condone sex at the expense of either of the partner’s spiritual, emotional, or physical health. However, those with a sexual addiction eventually will not be able to contain the sex drive within the safe boundaries of God’s word. The addiction grows until it becomes a fire that cannot be quenched. It ultimately ruins every part of its slave’s life.

Sexual addiction is not only a physical and emotional addiction, I believe it is a spiritual addiction, as well.

“Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:16-18 ESV)

The sexually addicted person becomes an unstable, unpredictable person. Though they may have been born again through faith in Christ, their spirit is divided. One part is connected to Jesus and the other part to the cravings the sexual experience brings.

Selfishness is a major spiritual force in the life of the addict. Pleasing self, satisfying the urge, is the dominating drive. It’s not, “How may I please my spouse”? No, it’s about pleasing self.

Tenderness and self control are spiritual forces that, when developed according to God’s principles and spiritual power, can overcome the cravings, habits, and even the perversions of the sex addict.

No one is born a sex addict. It happens gradually, choice after choice, experience after experience. It grows until it can no longer be contained in the dark, but must manifest itself wherever and whenever the urge; regardless of who may be affected.

It’s like a flame which continually reaches for more fuel. To some, more fuel means greater perversion; others, more stimulants and more often. Still others may act out their addiction targeting children and even animals.

But no one is born craving the fulfillment of sexual fantasies.

Sexual addictions can be broken by the power of God, BUT THE FREEDOM WILL BE MAINTAINED ONE DECISION AT A TIME.

How are you doing?

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV)

You have a choice. Decide what and who you’ll serve. Ask someone you trust to help you act on your decision.

And know God is also as close as the mention of his name.

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16 ESV)

A Prophetic Word…

20140403-152942.jpg
I believe this is a word from the Lord:

A shaking is coming upon this land; the land of the free and the home of the brave. A land that is more brazen than brave, and more in bondage than free. This shaking, which will affect each and every person, rich and poor, young and old, will help right the wrongs done specifically in the Lord’s Name, yet against His Kingdom.

For He will display what His grace is really about. He will reveal His power to free the addict, but will call into judgment the things permitted and proclaimed as His will, but have only been the will of worldly-minded pastors and preachers. He will manifest to each person who hungers for freedom, the grace that frees them. But He will correct those who believe God’s grace is their license to pamper the flesh.

The coming shaking will identify and separate truth from error. It is part of the laundering process required to remove spot and blemish.

Anything and everything this nation is holding to, apart from the Lord, will be shaken from their grip, whether things or thoughts. It will be only for a short while, and when it stops many will grab hold of the same things as before. However…

Many, many prodigals shall be shaken off of their bunks, out from under their bridges, and released from the snares that have held them for years. They shall come to their senses, and shall see Jesus as the real and only Lover of their soul. They shall be shaken from the worldly trees they have joined themselves to. They shall fall like overripe fruit. They shall release their hold, and the world’s hold shall be released from them.

Shaking, shaking, shaking. Wind blowing, rain falling, hearts failing; but His Kingdom will remain and His prodigals shall return.

Spiritual doors will fall off their hinges, leaving wide open opportunities for God’s people to enter areas previously blocked. His Power and His Word shall be carried into these shaken places and new life will spring up. Yes, the prodigals are everywhere, hiding in their world of make-believe; but He has not forgotten them, and He knows exactly where they are. And they will come. Yes, they will come.

So release this word into their lives; by faith call them forth. Prepare your hearts for the shaking, and for the prodigal’s return.

Yearn for the prodigal. Believe for the prodigal. Embrace the prodigal – and you will embrace God’s restorative love. For understand this: He is calling the prodigals to come home. He is running after them. He is leaving the ninety nine to rescue the one. And He will find them.

And so will you.

As for the timing of the shaking, it’s already being staged. But within 14 months the shaking’s major effects shall be witnessed. There will be some news agencies that will refer to the shaken economy, the shaken weather patterns, and societal turmoil as an earthquake which cannot be seen or heard, but is being felt across the nation. Race issues will again be a hot issue; because it has not been resolved in His church. But He is forcing us to face it and resolve it.

For those whose hands are in His, you have nothing to fear. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. You can boldly say, the Lord is my helper; I will not fear. But if you feel things in your life shaking, release them to Jesus. Be free.

Smile, child. And warm your heart to His plans, His purposes, His gifts and callings… and His prodigals.

They’re coming home.

The more people struggle against it, the worse it will be. Defiance to His shaking will bring about certain ruin. Not right away. But as certain as the sun rises in the morning, ruin will come.

People of God, begin NOW to loosen your worldly grip, the lust for sensual entertainment, and your adulterous relationship with the world. Let it go, and discover how to love the world as He does.

Amen.

“His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from his hands, where his awesome power is hidden. Pestilence marches before him; plague follows close behind. When he stops, the earth shakes. When he looks, the nations tremble. He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills. He is the Eternal One.” (Habakkuk 3:4-6 NLT)
