A Merry Walmart Christmas

Christmas Day is historically a day with many ups and downs. Gifts and guilt. Food and foolish behavior. Disappointments and disgusting manners. Family members and frozen receptions.

That’s why I’m suggesting something which may help you make it through the day.

You see, people have Christmas blues, or grays if you prefer, mainly because of unmet expectations. So…

Ta-da! Here’s an idea for something different this year. A little variation of the normal Christmas routine.

Why not have yourself a merry Walmart Christmas?

Go to your local Walmart and spend your Christmas shopping money on yourself! So what if your loved ones don’t get anything! Who cares what people may think of you!

As long as you get what you want!

Sure, it’s better to give than receive. But what about wanting something so much, only to be heartbroken after December 25th?

You can still celebrate Christmas with the family. After all, they don’t need all those presents. Christmas isn’t about presents; right? They shouldn’t be so materialistic.

As long as YOU get what you’ve been wanting.

Celebrate with your loved ones while enjoying a wonderful holiday meal. You know, ham, turkey, sweet potatoes, pies, and lots of whipped cream.

Don’t like all that stuff? Or maybe your family doesn’t fix the food you enjoy? Easy-peasy!

A merry Walmart Christmas will fix everything.

Take the money you planned to spend on others and buy yourself a roasted chicken or something. Stop by the deli and pick out some delicious sides; like mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and coleslaw.

Before you check out, swing by the bakery for your very own pumpkin pie (don’t forget the Cool Whip).

I’m telling you, you’ll never go back to the old way of doing Christmas again.

Not when you’re guaranteed satisfaction with both the gifts and the meals.

Hey, there’s always time to sing the carols, see the lights, and smooch under the mistletoe. And so what if those things are disappointing?

Big deal!

But when it comes to the BEST part of Christmas, one can’t afford to be unhappy. After all, it’s another year, 365 long days, until the next Christmas!

No, you’ve got to be ahead of the game. You need to plan yourself a merry Walmart Christmas now!

So what if others think you’re stingy and only care about yourself.

They just don’t understand the true meaning of Christmas.

Do Not Neglect The Gift

IMG_5214.JPG

Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. (1 Timothy 4:14 NKJV)

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. (2 Timothy 1:6 NKJV)

The gift of God, given to a person through the prophetic word (and the laying on of hands), is a strong indication that God is not content to simply wait for the last person (whoever that is) to give their heart to Jesus (whenever that will be).

God doesn’t play a “Prevent Defense”.

And he doesn’t orchestrate the actions of his church; thinking he has to settle for a tie with wickedness or anything else the devil throws at him or us.

No!

God goes for the win. He is always planning his invitations, preparing his messengers, and pursuing his loved ones; all seven billion of us.

Three things strike me strongly, in the two verses posted above..

1. The gift (charisma) is a special endowment from God. A spiritual gift, in that it’s spiritual in nature, yet it is to be used in the natural. Out where people, hurting and broken, live. A gift of God, yet given to a man to impart to someone else.

2. Speaking prophetically is speaking in God’s stead; as his mouthpiece. Laying on of hands, therefore, is touching someone in God’s stead; on his behalf.

3. Though the gift comes from God, and the words and hands represent God’s words and hands, still we have the responsibility to stir up the gift. We have the duty of not neglecting the gift. God won’t operate it for us, and neither will the ones who prophesied over us while laying hands upon us.

If God is going to be honored as he should be, we must use the gifts he’s given, as he prescribes.

If people are going to be helped as God has planned and prepared, we must not hold back using what we have; even though we may not think we have very much.

If the gift isn’t used, then there isn’t any reason for the prophetic word, or the laying on of hands. None of the gifts are meant just to be displayed, as a Christian version of Show and Tell.

God doesn’t have to anoint or impart gifts to any one of us. But it’s a sure thing he is going to enable and endow someone. He needs people to do the work of the ministry. He needs folks yielded to him so he can flow through them. So, since he’s looking for someone who will partner with him, it might as well be me.

And you.

Do not neglect God. Do not neglect God’s gift. Do not neglect God’s purpose. Do not neglect God’s prophetic word.

And do not neglect God’s people. They just may be someone who has something of God’s to impart to you.

Or, to receive from you.

Spiritual Worship

20131203-233040.jpgI think the song went something like, “I’m eighteen and I like it!” That was me. That was my “worship song”, though I didn’t call it that at the time. Married and 18, with visions of becoming a rock and roll star dancing in my head. Christian? Nah, didn’t have the slightest interest in God, Jesus, Church, or anything associated with that sort of stuff. Little did I realize…

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”(Romans 11:29 NKJV)

I didn’t believe in God but He believed in me. I wasn’t seeking Him, but He was in hot pursuit of me. He didn’t fit in my plans, yet somehow I fit into His. Simply amazing.

Anyone who has ever graced this planet has somehow fit into God’s plan. He has given everyone gifts and callings. Abilities that make the Kingdom of God shine even brighter, when used for the Glory and purposes of God.

Think about your life. Did you know that God has given you gifts and callings? He has something just for you. No one else can take your place. Whether you believe in Him or not, He believes in you.

He believes in YOU! He knows YOU inside and out!

The gifts and callings HE’S graced you with, will be those things you’ll use to worship Him.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” (Romans 12:1 ESV)

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.” (Revelation 4:11 NLT)

I was about 21 when He finally broke through my walls of resistance. The gifts and callings? They became less important to ME, but the Lord started His training program with me and began to reveal in me how my gifts were meant to serve the calling He gave me. All I have, in fact, all I am, is to be yielded to Him in true, spiritual worship.

You see, He plans to use my gifts and calling for all eternity, not just until I’m dead and gone.

Imagine what He’s placed in you. What could He do with someone like you submitted to someone like Him? Try and envision what that level of worship would be like.

Only eternity has the answer.
