The Dreaded Children of God

20131017-212528.jpgI feel like I’ve missed something important.

I mean REAL important.

I’ve been a Christian, a born-again child of God, for 38 years. I’ve been a minister, preacher, pastor for 30 years. But I still feel like I’ve missed something important.

REAL important!

I’ve witnessed God minister in outstanding ways to men and women, boys and girls. Testimonies of broken marriages completely restored by God are common. Yet…

I feel like the Lord is showing me something I should have understood years ago; “the dreaded children of God.”

For example, when God had the children of Israel moving from Egypt to the Promised Land, He made a powerful promise to His children:

“But if you indeed obey His (My Angel’s) voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

“For My Angel will go before you and bring you in to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off. “You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and completely break down their sacred pillars. “So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. “No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. “I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.” (Exodus 23:22-27 NKJV)

Right before Joshua took the city of Jericho, Rahab testified that she and her people feared the “dreaded children of God.”

“I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. “For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. “And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” (Joshua 2:8 – 2:11 NKJV)

“The terror of you…the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you…neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you…”.

See what I think I’ve been missing?

Moses reminded the children of God just what was expected of them, and what they could expect from God.

“This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the nations under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.” (Deuteronomy 2:25 NKJV)

“No man shall be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you.” (Deuteronomy 11:25 NKJV)

If I’m seeing this correctly, every time the children of God were to take new territory or possess the land He’d already promised, they never were to go out alone. The DREAD and FEAR of God would go before them; thus ensuring certain and complete victory.

Even in the days following the day of Pentecost, and the subsequent persecution of the church, the dreaded children of God were causing an uproar in Jerusalem and surrounding regions.

“So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things…Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.” (Acts 5:11,13 NKJV)

Okay. So what am I saying? Am I saying I think people should be scared of us because we’re children of God?

No, I’m not.

But I do believe the spiritual forces which are affecting the lives of people SHOULD recognize the dreaded children of God are in the area; and their presence means God’s in the neighborhood!

It was that way for Jesus!

I know! We’re not Jesus. But if we wear His armor, speak and obey His word, and demonstrate His love…how will the devil know the difference?

People are living in darkness…dreaded children of God, YOU are the light of the world.

People are full of confusion and fear…dreaded children of God, YOU have the wisdom and love of God to share with them.

The enemy has no defense for the dreaded children of God who have settled in their hearts ONE GREAT TRUTH: JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, and has the first and final say in their life!

Note: “the dread” and “fear” of God didn’t fill the tabernacle or the temple. The Glory did, but not the “dread”. That happened when His people were following His MOVEMENT, and they were moving in accordance with the Cloud; the Spirit of God. As they were possessing their possessions, God was “melting” any resistance which was ahead. As the new believers preached Jesus to their world, God’s “dread” brought the people to their knees.

I sincerely and passionately believe it’s time for the DREADED CHILDREN OF GOD to rise up in one accord, and shake their world as the early church shook theirs!

Instead of the church being shaken by the world’s forces, let’s trust and obey God, and do some shaking of our own!

End Times? Forget It!

Now that the Mayan crisis is over, we can all get on with life…BUT WAIT! “But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.

Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness”(2 Peter 3:10 – 3:13 NLT)

Arise, Shine!

Sunrise
Please don’t misunderstand me…
I am not a gloom and doom kind of guy; but I have been spending time meditating on the Word and praying for and about the present day Church. While I may write things that seem like I’m ragging on the church and ministers, I am totally in love with Jesus AND His Church! And though I believe the next year will be extremely challenging and ministries will be sifted and shaken,

I see the Glory rising through those who won’t, and can’t, be stopped!
Malachi 4:1,2 – The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says, “The day of judgment is coming, burning like a furnace. On that day the arrogant and the wicked will be burned up like straw. They will be consumed roots, branches, and all. “But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture. On the day when I act, you will tread upon the wicked as if they were dust under your feet,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Isaiah 60:1 – Arise, shine, for your light has come; and the Glory of the Lord is risen upon you.

Men and women of God – let go of the things that cause you and others to stumble in darkness. Embrace the changes the Lord is bringing you through.

Hate what He hates, love what He loves; and He will anoint you with the oil of joy beyond what you’ve experience thus far.

Days of Brightness,
Days of Freedom,
Days of Refining and Defining the Church.

You know what? We’re going to need each other…

Next Year (as I see it)

20121217-121325.jpg

2013, I believe, will be a tougher year in every area but one. Social, financial, political, physical, even spiritual struggles will increase. People’s thought life will be challenged beyond what they’ve experienced and it will take a great degree of discipline to keep focused on truth rather than fantasy.

I see a Divine Separation taking place in 2013. As believers contend for righteousness and holiness, there will be a greater divide in the Church. While fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, will be connecting spiritually in a way not seen in the past 3 generations, spiritual brothers and sisters will lock horns. This is part of the “sharpening process”. Though many will not survive the process, it must take place. “Everything that can be shaken will be shaken, so that which can’t be shaken may remain.” The Lord’s work will be completed by vessels that have been tested in all ways and have become sharp and unshakeable in Him.

I believe there is one area that will NOT be tougher in 2013, in the sense of hard work with little results. But this will require much from those who want to see the Glory of God change multitudes of lives. That area is loving the world without reservation or hidden agendas. To those who will set aside their titles, ministries, programs, biases, doctrines (yes, doctrines), time, money, and simply love their world with God’s love they will see more people come into the kingdom than the church has seen in many, many years. This will be extremely hard for large ministries and those comfortable and secure in their churches. The process will require radical change in their philosophy of ministry. They will feel like they have become stripped bare and exposed to their congregations, peers, and the world. But the Lord will remind them His love should be their covering. Remember, He left His comfort and security to come to earth and ultimately was left exposed to His world; and while His people didn’t respond as they should’ve, multitudes did! And as many as received Him, He gave them the authority to become sons of God, even to as many as believed on His Name.

Quite a year is ahead! I sense the Spirit of God saying, “For too long the love of God has been hidden by the selfish works and ideas of man. It is time to expose the love of God for what it is; something bloody and raw that will go to the ends of the earth and give the ultimate sacrifice for someone else. The love of God makes you vulnerable, but extremely powerful. So don’t fear when you awake and find yourself spiritually and emotionally naked. Proceed to your world in My Name! They won’t see your nakedness, rather they will see My love.”

One last thing. I not only see testing and preparation increasing in the Body of Christ, I see the world’s trials increasing. What do I mean? I have a picture of Pharaoh, in the book of Exodus. God’s workings weren’t just for Israel, but also to bring Pharaoh and Egypt to a place of decision! Remember, there were many Egyptians who decided to leave with the Israelites.

What a time to be in the Kingdom!

“Then he instructed me, ‘Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near. Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy.'”

“‘Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.'”
(Revelation 22:10-13 NLT)

Things are getting hot!

20121213-193909.jpgIf you’ve been somewhat observant over the last 10-20 years, you will have to agree there have been a number of changes in the church, especially here in America.

I’ve been around a few years, and have heard all kinds of remarks about the problems in today’s church. “Too much liberalism in our pulpits.” “Music’s too loud.” “If I wanted music like this I’d visit the neighborhood bar.” “Too much compromise!” “No Sunday School or Sunday evening services.” This and that, one thing then the next. On and on and on and on…

But I really don’t consider any of those issues, even though they may be true, the biggest problem facing the church.

Huh?

I’ll say it a different way. In my opinion, there’s something far more damaging to the church than liberalism, more damning to the soul of man than loud music, and destructive to our mission than not having a Sunday evening service. It’s this:

We’ve become too familiar with God.

Shall I explain? One definition of the word “familiar” is “common, everyday occurrence”. In other words, we’ve become so used to being around Him there isn’t any sense of awe. The church has lost the “awe”! How? By inserting our plans, programs, and earthly thinking into what we used to rely on God to do! As a preacher, we’ve learned how to “manipulate” the audience (watching our show) so they’ll respond like we want them to. And then we call it being anointed.

It is impossible to really be “anointed” without the Fear of God in your life. Hebrews 1:8,9

We can have “worship services”, go through the list of the latest “charts”, get the glory-bumps on us, shout a bit, listen to a sermon, shake a hand or two, get in the car and go right back to where we were before “worship”. No sense of awe! No change in attitudes! Just go through the motions, try and get the market share of tithes and offerings, put out the best programs to attract the masses, and hope God sees fit to bless the work of our hands!

A couple verses from Hebrews come to mind as I write: “Our God is a consuming fire…” and “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

“Brother, I think you’re getting a little legalistic.” Maybe so, the Lord will be the Judge, but I don’t think so. I love the Lord, love to worship, preach, shout and “have church” like the rest. I think it’s important to do things the best we can. But “familiarity with God”, where He is an after-thought in all our activities, is dangerous! Here’s an example:

Working in a foundry, pouring hot iron that’s 2700 degrees, you must never lose your sense of awe or respect for it. Though it is your “friend and partner”, creating strong castings, etc, you must respect it. You don’ need to fear it, just respect it. You cannot become too familiar, as if it doesn’t matter how you treat it, because that’s when you get burned! I know!

The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and it causes you and I to depart from evil. Familiarity with God minimizes the fear and awe of God we desperately need in the church. The fear of God would clean up our thoughts, our actions, our mouths, and our “worship” would be pure. Our sermons wouldn’t be powerless or reliant upon the latest gadgets available but would be filled with the Spirit of God and shake us to our knees!

Mark it down, though. The Fear of God is rising, whether we want it or not. The Holiness of God is becoming more and more evident. It’s time we quit thinking of God as our “bud” or “pal”, but reverence Him as Lord of ALL. He IS a consuming fire, and the heat is rising!
