For Your Sake, Please Cover Up

IMG_1855

Would it be alright if I asked all Christian women to do themselves a big favor?

Yes?

Please, cover up the cleavage.

I realize society has given you the right to dress pretty much however you please. But society’s approval or disapproval doesn’t carry any weight in the kingdom of God.

Did you know God thinks more highly of you than you could ever think of yourself? He’s the one who designed the female body, remember? And he has made your body to be a special joy to only one person.

Your husband.

It’s common knowledge, dear sister; women have breasts. Therefore, there’s no reason to display your God-given gifts. Please, do yourself a favor – keep them solely for the enjoyment of your man.

God wants you to be honored as the special person you are; regardless of whether your figure is small or full. He wants others to see your vivacious spirit, the result of God’s grace upon your life, rather than a gob of skin that is destined to decay.

Your body, even if it’s a perfect “10”, cannot represent you for who you really are – a daughter of God.

So, may I please appeal to you as a brother; make a fashion statement that’s becoming of the person God made you to be.

Sure, most guys enjoy the sight of gobs of skin. But that doesn’t mean they value or honor you. God created you to be more than a visual thrill, or the subject of some twisted perversion.

Maybe you’ve never known true love. Love that’s based on sacrifice and tenderness, not on how much a person can take from you. God wants you to know his kind of love, and experience it each day.

He counseled each man who’d take the time to listen to him:

“Drink water from your own well – share your love only with your wife. Why spill the water of your springs in the streets, having sex with just anyone? You should reserve it for yourselves. Never share it with strangers. Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a loving deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts satisfy you always. May you always be captivated by her love. Why be captivated, my son, by an immoral woman, or fondle the breasts of a promiscuous woman.” (Proverbs 5:15 – 5:20 NLT)

See yourself as the Lord sees you. Beautiful, precious, unique, and valuable; much too costly to be treated as eye candy.

“And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.” (1 Timothy 2:9-10 NLT)

“Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.” (1 Peter 3:3-4 NLT)

God has equipped you with all your charm (and charms) to get and keep a godly husband. You don’t need to walk around with a “for sale” sign on your chest. Sorry, I don’t want to sound crude, but that’s how some men read the excessive exposure of cleavage.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. If you’re married, your husband knows it’s true. And no one else needs to know.

If you’re not married, don’t cheapen your image by stooping to the world’s definition of worth.

For your sake, please, cover up.

Thank you.
