Where, oh where, is your allegiance, dear saint?
Where, oh where, is your faith?
Is your trust in God, or in Uncle Sam?
Where, oh where, is your love?
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (John 18:36 ESV)
Is it in Obamacare or God-cares? The Stock Exchange or the Great Exchange?
Are you more up to date with Fox News, The Blaze, CNN and other news organizations than God’s news? Who do you quote more frequently: Glenn Beck or Jesus Christ?
Christian, who do you love? What do you love? Where is your devotion?
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:15-17 ESV)
“But shouldn’t I be a good citizen?”
Yes.
“Be involved in politics?”
Yes, if the Lord leads you in that direction.
“Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life…” (Philippians 2:14-16 ESV)
However, we MUST remember our rights and privileges, our true freedom, does NOT come from any government other than the Government which rests upon the shoulders of Jesus! We are citizens of Heaven, first and foremost…
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”. (Philippians 3:20 ESV)
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” (Ephesians 2:19 ESV)
…and our allegiance belongs to HIM.
Take a good look at the New Testament. Notice the absence of patriotism. I’m not implying people didn’t love their country or their city. I only want Christians to recognize Jesus must be ABOVE ALL.
If Jesus isn’t the MOST IMPORTANT PERSON in our life, he isn’t important at all. If he is not Lord OF all, he isn’t Lord AT all.
There’s only one King.
No, it isn’t Barak, Joe, Nancy, Harry, John, Rand, Ron, Sarah, Ted, William, or John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
It’s Jesus.
