Well, it’s New Year’s Eve and people are celebrating the final minutes of 2013. Or maybe they’re getting an early start to 2014. I don’t know.
I DO know that this world is getting wackier by the minute; well, at least by the year. The latest goofball news I’ve heard is Colorado’s Weed Law which goes into effect tomorrow, January 1st.
Here’s a link to a Denver Post article discussing the Wacky Weed Law: http://www.denverpost.com/marijuana/ci_24823785/colorado-marijuana-guide-64-answers-commonly-asked-questions
To me, it’s one thing to smoke dope for medicinal purposes. Shucks, as a kid I did that very thing! I was sick of school, sick of parents, sick of every rule, sick of hamburgers… so to help me cope with my sickness I smoked dope.
Did it take away my sickness?
Well, does cranking up the car radio reattach the exhaust system that just fell off your car?
No.
But isn’t it nice to know people in this country are becoming more “progressive”? Colorado, famous for their beautiful mountains, sky blue lakes, and great ski resorts will now be known for their “dopes” rather than “slopes”. Blue skies will be replaced by a green haze. Imagine what their license plates will look like! The mountains will be replaced by a luscious green plant bearing seven or nine leaves.
And won’t it be wonderful to see how the little kiddies improve their school grades? Sure, no one under 21 can LEGALLY purchase the weed. So what! It’s been ILLEGAL for years and years, but that hasn’t stopped people from peddling it, purchasing it, rolling it, and smoking it – including minors!
But this is progress.
I can envision a change in their state motto, which was for years “Colorful Colorado”. The new motto? “Cannabis Colorado – The “Totally” Green State”
It’s a shame people don’t realize what’s happening.
“But God created those plants! They must be good!” Yep, but not for smoking. Strychnine is derived from a plant, as well. I wonder which State will be the first to legalize that for “recreational” smoking.
“Recreational“, think about it. Re-creational. It speaks of rejuvenation, creativity, revitalization and refreshing. None of those words describe a doper’s “high”. To be truthful in advertising they should use words like sluggish, lazy, fogged, and forgetful.
Scripture gives us a glimpse of just how “progressive” society will become. They’ll progress right up to the point that, even though they’ll be experiencing the wrath of God, they will choose their party lifestyle and lust for drugs, rather than repent and turn to God.
“But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood ā idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts.” (Revelation 9:20-21 NLT)
The Greek word translated as “witchcraft” is closely connected to the same word found in Galatians 5:20. It is pharmakeia, or pharmaceuticals, enchantments, drugs.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21 ESV) “Sorcery” is translated from “pharmakeia”.
I really hate to spoil anyone’s recreational time. Far be it for me to be the one to throw a green cloud over this whole issue.
But I really do believe there’s a better way to spend one’s time, money, and life.
After all, there’s a reason it’s called DOPE.
