Only One Shot At Life

No one determines if or when they will be born, and most haven’t a say regarding the day they die.

But we all have some input on how we’re going to live out the days in between.

Whether we only have 10,000 days, or a whopping 35,000 days (almost 96 years), we only have one shot at life.

Life consists of much, much more than inhaling and exhaling, and a heart rate of 80 beats per minute.

It’s more than merely existing.

Some may make a big splash in their world, enjoying much more than fifteen minutes of fame.

But even if we’re the most popular, most powerful, most prestigious person on earth, we have only one shot at life.

One shot at life in our mortal body.

One shot to decide our eternal fate; our endless destiny.

Oh, the days fly by so quickly. We are so easily distracted with the everyday, routine things, that we sometimes ignore the still, small voice whispering to our heart, “There’s more to live for, more to enjoy, than you’re experiencing.”

One day turns into a thousand, and our one shot at life slowly passes us by.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

“He who has the Son has life” (1 John 5:12).

There’s no reason anyone should live another day without life; life that only God can provide.

There isn’t a soul on this big, blue earth who wasn’t created to experience life; an eternal, God-filled life.

We must not let our one shot at life pass us by.

There’s a truth we must all embrace, by faith, in order to have eternal life. Life which takes us far beyond merely existing; both now and forever.

That truth is simple, yet we need God’s help to receive it.

We are, by nature, rotten to the core; undeserving of God’s eternal life and love. We all are selfish and rebellious. We may try and be good, but even if we lived a thousand lifetimes we could never attain the goodness, the holiness, God requires in His Kingdom.

God knew we could never make it on our own, which is why He sent His Son, Who was/is perfect in all of His ways, to become the Father’s once and for all payment for the sins of mankind.

Our shot at life, our one shot at life, is our opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as our Substitute; our Lord and Savior.

“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12 NLT)

The right, the privilege, the authority, to become a child of God, a soul made alive with the very life God has AND IS!

Our days have a way of slipping by, and quickly, I might add.

What are you doing with yours?

“And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment…” (Hebrews 9:27 NLT)

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.” (Romans 10:9 – 10:10 NLT)

Don’t assume you have another day left to decide. Nothing is promised, nothing is certain.

But if there is breath in your lungs, God is still offering you one shot at life.

Please don’t let it slip by.

“And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.” (John 3:36 NLT)

Remember, one shot is all you have.

“For God loved the world (including YOU) so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NLT)
