You may think I’m nuts, crazy, and loony; and maybe I am. But I believe God is the biggest liberal this world has ever seen or known! Yep! Bigger than George Soros.
He’s also the biggest conservative ever. Yes, even bigger than Ronald Reagan.
Allow me to explain myself; beginning first with “liberal“.
In some circles, calling someone a liberal is like calling them a filthy name, or telling them their mother wears combat boots. In other words, they don’t think too highly of the term.
But in one sense of the word, God is a liberal. No, he’s not democratic, republican, or libertarian.
He believes in social programs such as supporting the widows, orphans, fatherless, and the poor.
He believes in the redistribution of wealth.
In a way, he is an enabler.
Now, don’t get mad at me and say something you’ll need to repent of later. I didn’t make God, and I never taught him to be like he is. So just calm down.
God freely gives to those who dare ask him; in fact, he’s rich to all who call upon him. And he enables us (gives us the power) to get wealth.
“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth…” (Deuteronomy 8:18 ESV)
I call that liberal.
God is so liberal, he believes in a woman’s right to choose! He offers life to everyone, but he allows every woman (and man) to choose (Deuteronomy 30).
I don’t understand why some liberals don’t believe in God; after all, he’s liberal just like them.
Or, maybe liberals aren’t really liberal.
It’s liberal to give to the poor if it’s your money you’re giving. It’s liberal to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and take care of the orphans and widows if you are paying the tab.
But it is stealing to take money from other people to pay for something you want to do. That isn’t liberal, that is theft.
It isn’t liberal to take the life of a child who’s still in its mother’s womb. It’s murder.
It isn’t liberal if I’m “liberal” with what isn’t mine to begin with.
As for redistribution of wealth?
“Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren, but the sinner’s wealth passes to the godly.” (Proverbs 13:22 NLT)
“If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord – and he will repay you.” (Proverbs 19:17 NLT)
When the children of Israel prepared to leave Egypt, God told Moses to have the people ask the the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold (God had given the children of Israel favor with them).
“And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed; they asked the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold. The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth.” (Exodus 12:35-36 NLT)
Redistribution of wealth. From those who rebel against God and his purposes, to those who honor and obey him. From the people who are stingy and live only to please themselves, to the ones who imitate God; using wealth as a way to bless others and finance Kingdom work.
Liberal.
I also see God as conservative. Again, not a conservative, right winged, homophobe and abortion clinic bomber.
Small government, low taxes, strong military are things he agrees with. His government is small enough to rest on the shoulders of his son, Jesus (Isaiah 9:6).
He has been known to ask for everything we have, but he only receives what we willingly give. In fact, he doesn’t tax his people; it’s either give cheerfully or not at all.
A strong military? Just ask Israel. Better yet, try and count the amount God has in his army.
“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels.” (Hebrews 12:22 NKJV)
Innumerable! And there is a record of just one angel wiping out 185,000 enemy troops in one night (Isaiah 37:36).
I really don’t understand why some conservatives don’t believe in God! After all, he’s conservative; just like them.
Maybe conservatives aren’t really conservative. To believe in limited government, low taxes, and a strong military is great. But if the only reason I want those things is so I won’t be bothered by other people’s problems or issues, or so I can live to please only me, myself, and I; that’s not how God defines conservative.
To claim the title, Pro-Life, doesn’t make anyone a conservative like God. Believing abortion is wrong, but caring for neither the woman or the baby is something different than conservative.
Living to please the “tight-fisted triplets”, me, myself, and I, is not conservative.
Conservative doesn’t mean selfish or stingy.
What do you think? Liberal or conservative? Is one better than the other? Should our world or country settle for “either – or”?
I wonder what our nation would be like if we modeled our ideologies after God’s liberal and conservative ideas?
Some just might call it “Heaven on Earth”.
