Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
(Psalm 91:1-4 NLT)
“He will cover you…His faithful promises are your armor and protection”
Protection from what? Armor for what?
From every trap and from every disease. The Psalmist also adds cobras, lions, serpents, and trouble to the list of things God’s promises protect us, cover us, from.
Traps such as deceit, pride, lust, bitterness, and other evil schemes the enemy of our soul lays for us. Traps that are well hidden, completely out of sight until our feet step into them.
His promises can also cover us from ourselves! Our traditions, our viewpoints, our reasonings, our education…can sometimes stand between us and the promises of God.
I’m realizing just how much covering I need. I see people I really care about not acting like I would like them to act. Without His covering, I can allow my thoughts and reasonings to run wild. Before long, I am so far removed from faith in His Word I have a hard time battling doubts, anger, and depression.
But He covers me. He covers you.
Proverbs 28:13 says, “he who covers his sin shall not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them shall find mercy.” I cannot cover, or hide, behind how good or bad I am, or have been. Neither can you. But as we are open with God He covers us with His mercy. His Mercy!
1 Peter 4:8 – “…show deep love for each other, because love covers a multitude of sin.” Love covers those who haven’t earned the covering! It covers those who CAN’T earn it. That’s all of us!
Romans 2:4 – “…the goodness of God leads people to repentance.”
We must be covered with His promises. The world around us, our loved ones, our friends, our enemies NEED us to be covered! For our covering will keep us, including our hearts and minds, where we should be…
Believing God for His Kingdom to come, and for His will to be done in the lives of those we care about…better yet, in the lives of those HE CARES ABOUT!
Where are you abiding? Who’s secret place are you hiding in? What is your armor and protection?
“Under His wings shall I trust.”
One response to “He Has Me Covered”
Revelation 1:5 “… Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” We are freed from sin and protected by His covering. We have the “from Him” part, – from this day forward all we have and all we do is the “Unto him” – the easy part.
Why do we find it so hard?
